Dr. Sketchy's

Scarlet1.jpgScarlet2.jpgMarvel1.jpgMarvel2.jpgWent to another fun Dr. Sketchy's at the Clermont Lounge last night.  The model was Ana Aesthetic, who wore very elaborate Scarlet Witch and Marvel Girl costumes. I wish Ana had been around in Dallas when Three Martini Studios was in session. Marc, James, Dorian and I would've dug the comic book themes. Many thanks to Lori for putting this on and to D.J. at the Clermont for his hospitality.

In A Lone Star State

On March 6th, I went back to the scene of the crime. Yes, I went back to Dallas for a weekend visit. It was too quick, but I packed a lot of great things in. First, I met up with several folks from the old gang at Sal's. Back when Dave Brown and Steve Armes hosted the infamous Friday Night Group at Synapse Studios, we ate at Sal's every Friday night after the drawings session. The first time I visited the group, way back in 1996, we went to Sal's. And again 9 out of 10 Fridays for the next decade. So it was the perfect way to start out my reunion tour.

Telephone Factory Art Show 2008

Last Sunday wrapped up the TFAS 2008 (www.thetelephonefactoryartshow.com). Many thanks to Judge, Grant and Michelle for their hard work making it happen. Also thanks to the Fireball Collective (www.fireballcollective.com) for participating in the show with us. Also thanks to Kate for the wonderful food and to all my friends that stopped in to support the show. We had a blast and I sold several pieces.

Let's Catch Up

Well, it has been quite a gap since my last post. I'm not happy about that, but the good news is that it is because I've been so darn busy. As mentioned in the last post, I'll be in the 13th Annual Telephone Factory Lofts Art Show and Sale!

Dwight Saves the Day!

Disaster struck this morning. The originally scheduled model had massive car trouble on the way over. Panic-stricken, I called several models knowing that finding a model for the next seven hours was a long shot. But I had been looking forward to painting from life all week and to abandon the day was too painful to accept. So I persevered. I called Dwight, who - sort of like Superman - immediately ducked into a phone booth, took off all his clothes, and rushed over to salvage the session. We were relieved and excited and it showed in the work. Many thanks to Dwight.

Gettin' Reel

dwight1.jpgreel1.jpgreel2.jpgreel3.jpgA few weeks ago I went to an art opening at Reel FX (www.reelfx.com).  It is a great show, and I believe the pieces are still hanging up in their lobby. I got to meet a few of the artists and they invited me to draw with them at their life drawing sessions. It is great to get in more life drawing and an opportunity to meet some new artists.  Thanks to Ronnie for allowing me to join them.

Sunday Morning Coming Down

Today's session wasn't as lively as usual, partially due to the smaller crowd and rainy weekend. It did, however, inspire some good, moody art work. So no quotes, no dumb jokes (really!), just intense work. I decided to go digital today. I was just itchin' to use my tablet PC and try some new stuff. I put Dwight up in a regal-looking seated pose. Some talk about Rome inspired one of my drawings. I also posted a couple of digital drawings I did a couple of weeks back.

A Star is Born

a-star-is-born-web.jpgdelilah_el_vito_web.jpgelvito_web.jpgI took the stage for the first time last night. Many thanks to Delilah and Conte de Loyo for giving me the opportunity. I was on-stage during the Act One for two songs. I drew while Delilah danced and sang "El Vito" and then while Alicia Adame danced to Ole de la Curra. What a rush! I have drawn gestures in my sketchbook during Delilah's performances in the past, but to be part of the show was exhilarating.

Back in Action!

don052007web.jpgjohnkuehne2web.jpgmarctaroweb.jpgWe had a great session today. Aralyn is in a twisting, reclining pose that she'll resume next week from 9-2. John, Marc and I were the only ones in attendance, probably due to Mother's Day. It felt great to be back in the studio, where I don't have to worry about rattlesnakes. Below are the results of today, mine being a work in progress. I was really focused on composition today and working with a different type of approach. Toward the end I started to figure it out. We'll see what happens next week.
