Rock Spring Bluegrass Festival
This post is relevant to both my visual and aural artistic endeavors. On the 24th, my church, Rock Spring Presbyterian, is hosting our second annual bluegrass festival. I'll be playing bass with two different groups. At one o'clock Mike Nugent, Sonny Houston and I will play an assortment of bona fide gospel bluegrass standards. Right now we are calling ourselves the Sans Banjo Boys, although I guess on the poster we are called "And More!".
Then at 2, I'll still be on bass and with my regular group, Hicks with Picks. Then we are followed by two other bands, Flat Pickin' Inc. and the Mars Hill Porch Pickers. It should be a lot of fun, so come by if you can.
Attached here is the poster, which was created by yours truly. The BG Festival committee asked if I would put one together, and after a lot of pondering, I decided to work up an illustration utilizing my bass and a stained glass pattern from our chapel.
Hicks with Picks also has three gigs Oct 1-2 and I'll be on banjo for those events. The first is the Emory Presbyterian Church Bluegrass Festival on 10/1, then on 10/2 we are playing for the Emory Bluegrass Sunday Service at 11. The afternoon of 10/2 we are playing at the Oakland Cemetery Tunes in the Tombs. For more information about these events, go to hickwithpicks.org. And please note how I held back a number of bad jokes about playing in a cemetery.
